WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"I thanked WATCH for caring enough about the court to criticize it, because that is the only way it will improve."- District Court Judge
"Because of your work [strangulation project], we are able to make recommendations about the importance of such specific criminal provisions in other countries… " -Women's Human Rights Program Director
“…most of what I do in the courtroom (other than making decisions, rulings, etc.) is a direct result of WATCH observations about judges in general, and the need for us to let the public know what is happening.” -District Court Judge

YOUR DONATION MAKES A DIFFERENCE
With your gifts, WATCH trains volunteers to document what happens in court so we can work toward increased safety for victims of violence. For the past two years, we focused on child proteciton hearings, and this year we are focusing on misdemeanor domestic violence cases in three suburban Hennepin County courts. That is in addition to regular monitoring of civil and criminal cases downtown, for a total of 5,799 hearings last year!
Please consider making a donation to WATCH using one of the options listed on the left. Help us keep a watchful eye on the courts.

WATCH conducted a two-year project monitoring cases involving child abuse and neglect. "The focus needs to shift away from how a mother has failed her children and address the ways in which society has failed the family," the report states. "If the goal is to reunify families, everyone in the system should be focused on bolstering the family's strengths and support systems with the same commitment used to investigate and assess the risk to children."
To address some of the barriers families face, the report makes a series of recommendations, including:
- Reduce the number of services and providers required in parents' case plans.
- Make every attempt to support victims of domestic violence to continue to care for their children at home.
- Improve communication and coordination among criminal, family, and juvenile courts. Read the full report.
